New Year Intention Setting.

I don’t set new year’s resolutions anymore and it’s been years since I have because truly how many of us keep them? We either forget them or set such big resolutions that we make it harder for ourselves to achieve them.  Plus there’s the pressure of setting and meeting those goals, and who needs that?  Definitely not this girl!

With all that we’ve been through this past year, I’ve been looking towards the new year and thinking about things in my life (our lives including hubby), that need changing, or improving, and considering the ways in which that can be done, both for myself individually and as a family.  And so, I’ve been thinking about setting intentions as opposed to resolutions.

A quick Google search lead me to and they will tell you that intentions are a course of action that one intends to follow, an aim that guides action, an objective, a determination to act a certain way. It is a goal or vision that guides your activities, thoughts, attitudes and choices. Intentions influence your experiences so you want them to be positive! Now I’m no expert on this, but I wanted to give it a try and give myself a sort of guideline to work towards in the coming new year.

So here it goes, in no particular order:

      • I intend to lead a healthier lifestyle
      • I intend to continue healing everyday
      • I intend to be gentler with myself and my loved ones
      • I intend to appreciate and attempt to understand others
      • I intend to lead a happy life

I think 5 is a good number to start this intention setting thing and as I was typing them up different things that fell under each category came to mind which I like.  It’s not limited to one thing or one aspect of life it encompasses various things and that’s good enough for me.

In setting those intentions, it all made me think of this picture of my husband and I. Spring Dapper Day at Disneyland, one of our favorite places and the day I pee’d on ALL the sticks. The day our life together was changed. Though bittersweet, thinking back on that day and those memories does make me smile, it was a sweet day that has changed us forever. All my intentions come back to this.

  1. Very nice post. I like stating intentions instead of setting goals. As you said goals are hard to accomplish because I for one know how things get thrown off. Keep blogging.

  2. Since I started reading plus size fashion and body positivity blogs a few years ago, I’ve really started to change my inner monologue and body image. I’ve especially noticed how my New Year’s resolutions have changed. Like you, they’re more about intention and really centered on cultivating more happiness and forgiveness in my life. Wishing you a peaceful and happy 2017!
